Are you the type of person who feels like you can comfortably ask people about things? Do you ask questions about boyfriends that don’t seem to be around anymore, or their relationship with their parents, or whether they’re happy with their salary, or rashes that catch your eye?
There are a few people in my life who know how to ask questions in the most kind and curious way. It never feels like they’re being nosy, it feels like they’re giving me a glass of water when I didn’t know I was thirsty. Here, drink this, talk to me about that thing no one else asks you about.
I’m great at asking friends meaningless questions about hawks and cereal and batteries, but sometimes it’s hard to ask the more personal, important things. At least wearing long pants makes it a little easier.
This week I’m reading My Year of Rest and Relaxation AND we’re finally watching season three of White Lotus. And the scabs on my legs are either gone or they’re invisible to me and everyone else who sees my legs.
Thanks for being here, I hope you’re able to ask the big and small questions you need to this week.
What a conversational gift - "like giving someone a glass of water when they didn't even know they were thirsty". It's a skill I would like to cultivate but wouldn't even know where to start.
So funny! Last summer I had a case of hives that peppered my body from the neck down to my ankles. They did not itch, but were very visible. I only got questions from family or people I knew extremely well. My grandkids just called me polka-dot Gramma. Must have been an allergic reaction to something, didn't come back this year thankfully. So I can certainly relate to your story.
