It's the same great taste
Have you moved a lot? I hear a lot of people talk about deciding to start using the dishes or shoes or bags that they used to save for imagined fancy occasions - it’s never felt applicable to me because I don’t have that many fancy things, just a lot of impractical jackets. But living life as though I’m not perpetually six months away from moving has been a nice mindset shift this week. I’ve fixed so many things! “What if we had a couch here?” I asked Boaz as we sat in front of the TV the other night. Maybe today I’ll learn to make tortillas. Anything is possible.
Are there imaginary deadlines you have in your head for when you’ll start doing things you want to do? Are you a new years eve person? Are you waiting for graduation or retirement or the rapture?
This is my personal issue, and really should be its own post, but I don’t love when you ask people where they grew up and they say “everywhere.” We all grew up everywhere, I’m just trying to make small talk. Just pick one or two of the places, or tell me where a family member currently lives. It feels like asking someone their name and getting the answer “Oh, I go by so many names.” I moved eight times as a kid and when someone asks me where I grew up, I say Minnesota.
Have you played the game Unpacking? It has all the best things about moving and none of the bad things (dry skin, calling to set up the wifi, boxes labeled “misc” that contain old computer cords, paper plates, and a jar of mayonnaise).
If you like Unpacking, you should play Tiny Bookshop, we started playing last week and it’s so nice. It’s a little like Stardew Valley, but without flying skulls that chase after you.
I hope you have a nice week with people you love and that you don’t put off any of the things you want to do. Thanks for being here.

When I was in my late 30s, I lived in 4 different cities in 2 years. I do not recommend this.
I wish my town had a Japanese Stickers store! Also, I'm not into video games, but I LOVE the idea of that Tiny Book shop game. I've moved a million times, and I think it's funny that every time you move and get rid of a ton of stuff, within a year you have built back up all that stuff.
