Worst non-costume party I’ve ever been to, absolutely no one else was dressed up. Thanks so much to my friend’s parents who let me wash off my face paint in their bathroom (where in hindsight I probably made a huge mess) and thanks to my mom for taking this picture of me before the party, when I still felt like the coolest kid in the world. Black lips!
Did you have go-to costumes when you were a kid? Do you like dressing up - are you dressing up this year and if so what’s your costume? Do your pets dress up? I have a good sweater that I think could make me look a bit like Noel Fielding, and he feels like a kindred spirit because we both love looking at cakes but not eating them.
Please please please tell me your worst teenage party experience, halloween-party-related or otherwise. I hope your week is nice, and that you’re safe and good, and that you eat a few Kit-Kats or the candy of your choice.
My husband and I went to a Ron Burgundy costume party… where all of the men had great costumes, but I was the ONLY woman who dressed up. They all had cute cocktail dresses, and looked very chic while I wore a hot pink pants suit with huge shoulder pads and a side pony tail. I decided instantly that I would never be friends with any of those women. Fun before cuteness!
My very thrifty and creative mom reckoned that she could approximate greasepaint with Vaseline and flour. I will never forget the profound discomfort of that Halloween.
