Kip still seems young to me most days: he’s learning new tricks all the time (depending on your definition of trick) he can jump shockingly high, and he sleeps in until noon which is something teenagers do. I feel fine saying he’s still about seven. Maybe when people ask his age I should just be telling them how many bumps he has.
Last weekend I went to a store in Pittsburgh called the Refillery, where you can get things like soap and shampoo and laundry detergent in bulk. I always thought it sounded cool but who has that many of their own jars - when I got there I found out they have jars for free, that people have donated. This seems unlikely, but if you have a neighborhood refill store and not owning jars has stopped you from going, you should go and see if they have free jars.
I just finished Romantic Comedy, have you read it? It appeared on our bookshelf by magic because Boaz wanted to read it but he has a never-ending list of books about dandelions and husk cherries to get through.
Do you know your pet’s age? Do you celebrate their birthday? My friend had a birthday party for her dogs last year and attending a dog birthday has been a lifelong dream of mine, but in the end I had to work. Please invite me to a dog (or iguana, or bird, or cat, or fish) birthday if you ever have one, I’ll bring treats or whatever your pet likes.
I hope you’re doing well and that your pets are getting younger every day.
That's a great secular prayer. "May our pets get younger every day". Our dog died at 16 and change, and it wasn't long enough.
When I met my husband I asked how old his dog was at the time. He said um, twelve, I think. We eventually got married and Penelope was 12 whenever someone asked her age. I said one day, Penelope has always been 12 - how old is she really? We asked one of his sons if he knew (the son that brought her home as a puppy). He thought about it for a while, counted on his fingers a bit and said “12”. Now this dog had been 12 for many years at this point. Well, Penelope got older and suffered from doggie dementia. It got to the point when we decided it was time to let her go. When we got the final paperwork:bill from the vet’s office they had her age down as 12. So, Penelope was always 12. I think seven is a wonderful age for a dog like Kip to be forever.
