What a conversational gift - "like giving someone a glass of water when they didn't even know they were thirsty". It's a skill I would like to cultivate but wouldn't even know where to start.
So funny! Last summer I had a case of hives that peppered my body from the neck down to my ankles. They did not itch, but were very visible. I only got questions from family or people I knew extremely well. My grandkids just called me polka-dot Gramma. Must have been an allergic reaction to something, didn't come back this year thankfully. So I can certainly relate to your story.
You have a way of putting into words what I've been trying to think about but didn't have the words for. Thank you! You're doing good work and making good art here.
Several years ago, I got a stress rash on my torso. It didn't itch, it just looked like hell and was hard to hide unless I wore turtlenecks. I fielded a lot of awkward questions, because I'm surrounded by people with no filters. (Also, the "cure" for my stress rash? "You just need to relax. It should go away on its own in 3-4 months. Don't worry, it's unlikely to return." Yes. Because nothing helps a person relax like a torso-covering rash.)
Loved this. Repeated observations like this about my physical appearance can make me so uncomfortable. It makes me feel scrutinized. I love the idea of your legs feeling like they were being talked about behind their back. Made me laugh!

Love this! Sorry about your rash. And I agree, asking thoughtful questions tactfully is an art form

Can so relate. TY for this!
