My best compliment this week is my grown granddaughter dressed as ME for Halloween! A few days earlier, I was sitting outside, writing postcards to voters when a stranger walking by said "you look stunning sitting there with the sunlight on your hair." Wow, shocking. At 80, I rarely get complimented on my appearance or even noticed, frankly. I think I'm invisible to teens altogether.
I'm scared of teenagers too, and I live with two of them. And isn't ice cream basically just frozen and churned cereal milk? That makes it appropriate for breakfast.
I work with teenagers every day (I'm a high school librarian) and you've nailed this so perfectly. They are so judgy and wonderful that when you get a compliment it's absolutely glow worthy. Thank you for this post!
I am close to 70yrs old, yes, the invisibility of age has been going on for quite some time, so I think whenever I give a compliment people are like, great an old lady 👵🏻 thinks I look good wth does that say! But I still make an effort to put a decent outfit together at least to not be an embarrassment to my grandkids. I think I blend in which is prolly as much thought as they give it. Anyway this sounds way sadder than it is 😄
I was not a confident teenager at all, but I did give outfit compliments to strangers sometimes. In my heart, I was an emo, but couldn't afford to and wasn't allowed to dress like one and dye my hair. I admired the people who got to look as cool as I wanted to. As a teen and young adult, I ate ice cream for breakfast sometimes, my stomach can't take that anymore. 11-12 is probably the earliest for me now. I remember getting breakfast at a cafe on my birthday a few years ago, and at the table next to me was an old man eating 3 scoops of stracciatella ice cream and nothing else 😊
I'm wearing an outfit that I was visualizing all weekend, and I have to say that I think I look pretty good in it. I know what you mean about being scared of the younger generation, too. I teach Gen Z students, and whenever I get a compliment from one of them, it makes me feel really good. But, as others have stated, receiving a compliment of any kind is a good feeling.
A compliment is always a lovely gift to give someone. How nice you received two and from teenagers no less. It's hard to impress a teenager I think. I would not confident as a teenager. I think I did my best to be as invisible as possible.
Could be worse. The Hokkaido milk soft serve place near me doesn't open until THREE and is only open four days a week. Most of the world's problems could be solved if everyone had access to this stuff (they were out of hojicha, matcha swirl is still great).
Jeez I don't even want to remember being a teen, talk about an overrated time of life.
I love teenagers, however, as other readers of pointed out, they can be very judgy. If they are walking around, looking like there’s somewhere more Important to be, it’s often because they do not feel comfortable where they are, but want to appear that everything is better than OK. When you give them a compliment, it far more likely that they will pay it forward to someone else. Great role modeling..
i'm always so scared to give compliments to people (teenager or not) but every time i have they've been so nice i'm trying to make it a thing for myself to say something nice to someone now
Last week when I was in Germany, I gave compliment to two teenagers at different times, regarding the clothing they were wearing. I actually asked if I could take their photograph, and both complied with beautiful smiles.
I was not a brave teenager but I’m slightly braver now. I love giving compliments to strangers and receiving them sometimes too. Little sunbeams in the chilly city.
It's because of the shoes. I suspected this was the case, but to be sure I consulted the experts in my life about those shoes. They all confirmed my theory. Fact: It's because of the adorable shoes.

Two years ago at a festival in Ireland I received a compliment about my outfit from a teenager volounteer. I'm still reveling in that feeling.

Overrated; great description!

i'm a teenager and i'm scared of teenagers 😭 they always walk around like there's somewhere more important to be and it's so intimidating
